Summerton schools have ended lock downs after a shooter was active in the area earlier this morning.

The incident began as a string of vehicle break-ins where the suspect stole various items including a large amount of firearms. After being confronted by a local citizen who saw a robbery taking place via their ring doorbell, the suspect fired six times unsuccesfully at the victim before fleeing on foot.

SLED was called into investigate with a K-9 unit that tracked the suspect to where local authorities believe he was picked up and driven out of town, according to Clarendon County Sheriff, Tim Baxley.

The suspect was described as an african american man with a beard and blue jacket, and anyone who sees him is asked to immediately call 911. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.
