A Summerton man previously sought for questioning in connection to a fatal shooting has now been charged with murder, according to the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators have located and arrested Ricardo L. McFadden, also known as “Trick,” in relation to the death of 32-year-old John Edward Rhames III. Rhames was found deceased with a gunshot wound to the back of the head in a ditch near Washington and Louis Streets in Summerton on the morning of April 13.

McFadden, 42, has been formally charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and Sheriff’s Office investigators responded to the scene and continue to investigate the case.

Apology for Headline Choice
At The Manning Times, we take seriously our responsibility to report the news with accuracy, integrity, and compassion. We acknowledge that the headline originally used for our April 23 story on the recent homicide in Summerton was insensitive and did not reflect the gravity of the situation or the respect owed to the victim, his family, and the community.
We deeply regret the choice of wording and any pain or offense it caused. The headline has since been updated to more appropriately reflect the seriousness of the story.
We are reviewing our editorial processes to ensure greater care is taken in the future, especially when reporting on tragic events. We appreciate our readers holding us accountable and remain committed to serving Clarendon County with respectful, community-centered journalism.
Sincerely,
