DAVIS STATION – A Summerton man charged June 8 with trafficking crack-cocaine, possession of a gun with removed serial numbers and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, second offense, is awaiting bond at the Clarendon County Detention Center.

Travis Terrill Starks, 24, of 1040 Bald Eagle Road in Summerton, was arrested about 12:09 a.m. June 8, near Dameon’s Social club on Moses Dingle Road.

According to reports, Deputy 1st Class Henry McFadden Jr. with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office spotted a green 1996 Honda Accord parked at the gas station near the club, and observed the driver push a silver scale off his lap. Starks was one of two other passengers in the vehicle, and was in the back seat of the Accord.

McFadden asked the driver to hand him a clear plastic bag with suspected cocaine that was in plain view, but the driver instead handed him a plastic wrapper.

Though Starks and the other passenger were told to keep their hands up, the front seat passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward Moses Dingle Road. McFadden deployed his Taser, but missed. He detained the driver on the ground.

McFadden asked Starks to step out of the vehicle and put his hands behind his back, but Starks twice refused. Another vehicle then came up, and the Accord’s driver fled.

“A search of the (Accord) in the center console (revealed) a black in color .380-caliber Lorcin handgun with the serial number scratched off,” a report from the Sheriff’s Office states.

McFadden also found three clear plastic wrappers containing suspected crack-rock cocaine weighing 7.52, 4.90 and 4.34 grams, and two clear wrappers with cocaine weighing 6.48 and .97 grams.

Starks was treated at Clarendon Memorial Hospital after complaining of shoulder pain, but was released again to the detention center after his arrest.
