A Summerton man was arrested earlier this week after police say he vandalized several businesses and properties along the 400th and 500th blocks of Mill Street, causing an estimated $10,000 in damages.

Ricky Burard Tyriq Jackson, 28, was taken into custody on April 9 and charged with malicious injury to property. According to incident reports from the Manning Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after midnight following multiple reports of a man damaging mailboxes, ripping a mailbox post from the ground at one business, and throwing a sign through a window at another location.

Upon arrival, police located Jackson in the front parking lot of a business on the 500th block of Mill Street. Officers reported that he was pulling on a mailbox, and when instructed to stop, he attempted to flee but was detained after a brief encounter.

Significant damage was reported at Porter Jack’s restaurant, where three windows, a door, a flower pot, and a neon sign were destroyed. The damage was estimated at $10,000, making it the location with the most extensive loss. Jackson is also accused of throwing a sign through the already broken window of a nearby car wash and damaging mailboxes at other locations along the street, with estimates ranging from $50 to $200.

Jackson had previously been arrested three days earlier, on April 6, for disorderly conduct after allegedly throwing trash cans and traffic cones into the roadway in front of the Clarendon County Detention Center on Boyce Street. In that incident, officers reported that Jackson was uncooperative and admitted to being in the area but denied throwing the items.

He remains in custody at the Clarendon County Detention Center pending further proceedings.
