Dynamic duo of Thompson and Robinson lead Manning to victory
Manning won the last time they faced Lake City and things went their way on Friday too. The Manning Monarchs walked away with a 47-40 win over the Lake City Panthers.
Leading Manning to victory were Daniel Robinson and Jordyn Thompson. Robinson went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points, while Thompson posted eight points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Thompson a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Lovell Stevenson, who scored seven points in addition to 11 rebounds and three blocks.
Manning smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.
Manning’s victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Lake City, they have also been struggling recently as they’ve lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing East Clarendon the next time they take the court. Lake City will host East Clarendon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Manning will host them at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
Scott’s Branch Sets Scoring Season-High Against St. John’s
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Scott’s Branch). They enjoyed a cozy 62-43 win over the St. John’s Islanders on Tuesday. The team’s explosion on offense also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.
Nyren Bowman was the offensive standout of the matchup as he posted 14 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. JoJo Jackson was another key player, putting up eight points.
Scott’s Branch’s victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for St. John’s, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with the loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scott’s Branch will head out to take on Charleston Math & Science at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Charleston Math & Science is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they’ve averaged 61.3 points per game this season. As for St. John’s, they are taking a road trip to square off against Military Magnet Academy at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Military Magnet Academy also hasn’t been messing around on offense: they’ve averaged 51.5 points per game.
