The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office has been actively working to apprehend an individual that escaped from the Clarendon County Detention Center.

Shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, The Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office was notified thru dispatch that an inmate had escaped from the Clarendon County Detention Center.  The inmate was identified as 42 y/o Shaun Wayne Wiles.

Officers with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office,  the City of Manning Police Department, and multiple other agencies, to include the US Marshall’s Service, the Marshall’s Fugitive Task Force, SLED, SLED Helicopter, SC Highway Patrol ACERT Team, SCDNR, and Sumter County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and began searching for the subject.   K-9’s were used to track the subject from the Detention Center.   Shortly after daylight, the subject was spotted by a homeowner in the trunk of her car as she was placing a bag of trash in it.  The subject fled on foot into the woods.  Officers relocated to this area and began another search. While this search was on going, officers received information from a Farmer about a mile away that one of his farm pickups had just been stolen.  He had video of the incident, and it was determined that the subject was in fact the escaped inmate.

The stolen truck was described as a 2006 GMC single cab pickup truck.  It is white in color, has a toolbox on the back and has 25 bags of corn in the back of the truck.  The SC tag # is 44568FM.
