Scott’s Branch student receives prestigious scholarship

Scott’s Branch High School senior, Nnamdi Hopkins, received the prestigious 2023 Gates Scholarship. Nnamdi is a senior at Scott’s Branch High and is the first student from the school to receive this honor. Nnamdi was one of 750 awardees out of 51,000 applicants putting him in the top 1.5% in the nation!

Nnamdi has achieved outstanding performances in various activities. He has demonstrated leadership and dedication as a ranking member of the JROTC program and program completer of the F.E. DuBose Career Center Law Enforcement Program. He also actively participates in the school’s athletic department as a track runner and a manager for the girls’ basketball and volleyball programs.

“Nnamdi is an exemplary student and has shown that throughout his high school career,” stated Tyrone Cummings, SBMHS Principal. “Seeing our students excel and reach their goals is always great. I look forward to hearing great things from Nnamdi in the future.”

Nnamdi will attend Howard University in the fall to pursue a degree in Criminology and go on to the US Navy. His goal is to become a Federal Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, or Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
