With a basketball in one hand and a welding torch in the other, Scott’s Branch senior Siara Lundy is forging her own path. The standout point guard officially signed with The Apprentice School in Newport News, Virginia, blending her love for basketball with a career in skilled trades.

“My deciding factor was mainly due to my love of welding and basketball,” Lundy said.

On the court, Lundy is known for her aggressive drives to the basket, sharp decision-making, and leadership as a facilitator. But heading into the next level, she has her sights set on growth.

“I want to improve my three-point game and be more of a leader,” she said.

Balancing the demands of college athletics and academics will be no easy feat, but Lundy welcomes the challenge.

“I feel like I’ll be able to handle it, but I know it will be challenging,” she admitted.

Her father, a lifelong influence, has fueled her competitive fire from the beginning.

“My dad motivated me growing up—watching him play and just going outside and playing with him,” Lundy said.

Beyond the game, she believes The Apprentice School will shape her future in ways that extend past the hardwood.

“I feel like it will teach me better time management and give me new responsibilities,” she said.

As she steps into a male-dominated environment at a trade-focused institution, Lundy hopes to inspire other young women to take bold steps toward their futures.

“I would tell them not to be afraid to go,” she said. “Since The Apprentice School is a trade school, there will mostly be men there, but I would advise them to be themselves.”

Lundy’s signing is more than just a milestone—it’s a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. With a fierce drive and a vision for her future, she’s ready to carve out her own legacy, one basket and one weld at a time.
