SCDOT announces county-by-county road improvements

For those wondering when their taxpayer dollars will be used to improve road conditions in South Carolina, the answer may have just been given. The South Carolina Department of Transportation has recently released its county-by-county list of priority projects for the 2020-2021 year. 

The Transportation Commission approved a plan for $562 million in addition to road pavement and resurfacing projects. This is in addition to $1.3 billion already set aside for road, bridge, and safety project work that began in the 46 counties. This will affect 661 miles of primary roads, farm-to-market roads, and neighborhood streets. 

This is in relation to SCDOT’s third year in its 10-year plan to improve road conditions in South Carolina and affects many roads throughout Clarendon County. By releasing the county-by-county list, the SCDOT hopes to be more transparent in their projects. They have also added an additional “Public Comment” section to their website, encouraging citizens to provide comments during the public comment period.

• N. Church St. from mile point 11.50 to 12.21
• Mill St. from mile point 11.79 to 12.52
• Pinewood HEW./Lewis Rd. from mile point 0.00 to 2.28

Farm-to-Market Secondaries

• Barrineau Rd. from mile point 0.00 to 2.53
• Horse Branch Rd. from mile point 0.11 to 2.90

Neighborhood Streets

• Hartwell St. from mile point 0.00 to 0.06
• Major Dr. from mile point 0.00 to 0.64
• Free Will Baptist from mile point 0.00 to 0.29
• Haynesworth Mill Cir. from mile point 0.00 to 0.33
