Scam alert

Posted

Please be aware there is a scammer that is calling the public on their cell and landline phones stating that the person who answers the phone has a warrant on them for their arrest and must pay a fine to avoid jail time. The scammers are claiming to be members of Clarendon and Sumter county Sheriff’s departments. The scammers provide the names of Sheriff’s Offices employees to use as part of the scam in an attempt to make it more believable. They ask that the caller remain on the line until a money transaction has occurred. DO NOT give the scammer any of your personal or financial information. Tell the scammer that you are reporting the incident to one of the two sheriff’s offices and hang up.
