From the South Carolina Department of Public Safety:
The SC Department of Public Safety placed Corporal James C. Walsh and Corporal Matthew R. Nix under suspension without pay on August 3, 2021, for an alleged violation of department policy.
Walsh and Nix were suspended as a result of a currency seizure that occurred during a July 29, 2021 public safety checkpoint in Sumter.
SCDPS requested that the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigate the matter, and will conduct an internal investigation through the SCDPS Office of Professional Responsibility upon completion of SLED's investigation.
Welsh, SCHP Troop One, has been with SCHP since 2014. Nix, who is assigned to the SCHP Central Evidence Facility, has been with SCHP since July 8, 2005.
