Rotary Roundup: Summerton Rotary Club embraces fellowship and service

Posted

The Summerton Breakfast Rotary Club gathered at Shoney’s in Manning on October 10, for their weekly meeting, with a program led by Rotarian Linda J. Members enjoyed fellowship over breakfast, welcoming new members Maureen and Jose Calvo to the club. Special prayers were offered for fellow Rotarians John and Mable, wishing them and the entire Rotary family continued health and well-being.

District 7770 Governor Mary Gasque sent a heartfelt message to the club, encouraging donations to assist those affected by Hurricane Helene. The hurricane has caused significant devastation across parts of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The club is rallying to provide support through both monetary donations and material contributions, such as water, non-perishable food, baby supplies, and cleaning supplies. Donations are being coordinated through the Hilton Head Island Rotary Club Charitable Foundation. Rotarians were urged to submit contributions by October 13 to ensure swift assistance to the areas most in need.

Looking ahead, the club has a series of engaging programs scheduled for October, with Jacki I., who presented on October 17, followed by Gwen H. on October 24 and Howard C. on October 31. November will kick off with a Fellowship Day on the 7th and feature presentations from the Calvos later in the month.

In keeping with Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self,” members are reminded to contribute to the CART Bucket, supporting Alzheimer’s research, as part of their ongoing commitment to community service. Summerton Rotary continues to emphasize the Rotary International Four-Way Test, ensuring their actions promote truth, fairness, goodwill, and the benefit of all concerned.

The Manning Rotary Club did not meet last week, as Porter Jack’s restaurant was closed for the fall break, giving its staff a well-deserved rest. Both clubs remain dedicated to serving their communities with integrity and compassion.

Stay safe and well as Summerton Rotary continues to bring hope and help to those in need, locally and beyond.
