The Manning Rotary Club hosted Misty Hatfield, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC), during its meeting on November 6. Hatfield delivered an engaging presentation on the college’s mission, recent accomplishments, and vision for the future, emphasizing its commitment to workforce development and student success.

CCTC, which serves Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee, and Sumter counties, aims to improve lives through excellence in teaching, learning, and economic enhancement. Hatfield highlighted that CCTC currently boasts a 93% job placement rate for its graduates, a testament to the institution’s alignment with labor market needs. She also discussed the increasing demand for programs in fields such as nursing, environmental engineering, and mechatronics, reflecting the college’s ability to adapt to evolving workforce trends.

The Fall 2024 semester saw 242 students from Clarendon County enrolled at CCTC, with 30% participating in dual-enrollment programs that allow high school students to earn college credits. Hatfield also noted that nearly half of these students opted for online courses, showcasing the institution’s flexibility in meeting the needs of non-traditional and part-time students.

Hatfield elaborated on CCTC’s innovative partnerships with local industries, which include internships, apprenticeships, and customized training programs. These collaborations aim to prepare students for immediate employment opportunities in the region while also addressing critical workforce shortages. She also shared success stories of recent graduates, including students who secured competitive positions in healthcare, engineering, and technology.

Looking ahead, Hatfield outlined CCTC’s ambitious plans, which include the implementation of a new strategic plan for 2025-2030, the addition of new academic programs, and the development of advanced facilities. These efforts are designed to enhance the student experience and further support the economic growth of the counties the college serves.

The Manning Rotary Club continues its commitment to community outreach and is currently accepting donations of new and gently worn winter clothing for victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. Contributions can be dropped off at the club’s collection points in Manning.

Rotary Club meetings provide an engaging platform for members to connect with community leaders and learn about initiatives shaping the area.
