Posted

The anticipation is palpable in Turbeville as residents gear up for the much-awaited Puddin Swamp Festival, set to kick off on April 11th, promising a weekend filled with fun, festivities, and community spirit.

Jennafer Windham, this year’s festival chairperson, is excitedly gearing up for the event, marking her tenure with a burst of enthusiasm.

“Apr. 11 is actually the first day of rides,” Windham explains, “The rides will begin later that afternoon once everything is clear and set up, and we welcome people to come to the square and enjoy the rides a little bit.”

The festival, a beloved tradition in Turbeville, promises something for everyone. On Apr. 12, the festivities will kick into high gear with the eagerly anticipated parade, marking the official opening. Windham highlights the significance of the parade, stating, “It pretty much is our opening.”

The parade will feature esteemed guests and committee members, acknowledged for their pivotal role in the festival’s inception and continued success.

As the day unfolds, attendees can expect a vibrant array of activities. From the heartwarming Heart Walk sponsored by the Puddin Swamp Walkers to the adrenaline-pumping car show featuring a diverse range of vehicles, there’s no shortage of entertainment. Craft vendors will line the streets, offering unique wares, while dance troupes and musical performances will keep spirits high throughout the day.

One of the festival’s standout attractions is the renowned Miss Swamp Bottom Pageant, where attendees are treated to the whimsical sight of male participants decked out in elaborate costumes, embodying the spirit of Turbeville’s beloved swamp. Windham emphasizes the charitable aspect of the event, stating, “It’s for a good cause,” with proceeds supporting travel expenses for families visiting the Shriners Hospital.

The grand finale on Saturday night promises to be a spectacle not to be missed, with a dazzling fireworks display lighting up the sky over the square.

Windham extends a warm invitation to all, urging everyone to join in the festivities. “We invite everybody to come out to the square for that because it is amazing,” she enthuses.

None of this would be possible without the generous support of sponsors, including longstanding partner Citizens Bank, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in the festival’s success. Additional sponsors, such as Farmers Telephone and Turbeville Hardware, are equally essential in ensuring the festival’s smooth execution.

For those eager to learn more and join in the excitement, Windham encourages a visit to the festival’s Facebook page, where a wealth of information and updates await. Additionally, schedule cards are available at various businesses in Turbeville, providing a handy reference for all the weekend’s events.
