South Carolina House Speaker G. Murrell Smith Jr. has appointed Rep. Fawn Pedalino of District 64, which includes Clarendon and parts of Sumter counties, to serve on the South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank Board.
The appointment, made pursuant to South Carolina Code Section 11-43-140, is effective immediately and will run for the length of Pedalino’s elected term of office, according to a letter dated Jan. 6 from Smith.
“It is with great pleasure that I appoint you to serve on the Transportation Infrastructure Bank Board,” Smith wrote. “I am confident that you will serve with honor and distinction.”
Pedalino said she is grateful for the appointment and emphasized the importance of the board’s work in shaping transportation and infrastructure investments across the state.
“I sincerely thank Speaker Smith for the opportunity to serve our state in this role,” Pedalino said. “I don’t take this responsibility lightly, and I’m truly thankful for the trust that’s been placed in me.”
The South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank oversees and approves funding for major transportation and infrastructure projects, including roads, bridges and long-term improvements that affect safety, economic development and quality of life statewide.
“These decisions touch every family, every business, and every community,” Pedalino said, noting that the impact is especially significant in rural areas. “Rural communities often have to work harder to make sure their voices are heard.”
Pedalino said she plans to bring a practical approach to the board’s work while keeping residents at the center of discussions.
“I’m committed to doing the work, asking the tough questions, and keeping the people of South Carolina front and center in every discussion,” she said.
Smith copied Gov. Henry McMaster, Treasurer Curtis Loftis, Comptroller General Brian Gaines, Secretary of Transportation Christy Hall and Justin Powell on the appointment letter.
Pedalino thanked supporters for their encouragement and said she looks forward to serving in the role.
“I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to serve,” she said.
