The Paxville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) is rolling out a series of educational and career-focused programs this fall, designed to equip local residents with essential skills and knowledge. The organization is also calling on volunteers to support these initiatives and contribute to the community’s growth.
The PCDC’s fall offerings include basic and advanced computer training programs, a series of career search skills workshops, and an adult education GED/diploma program, all aimed at improving the quality of life for Paxville residents.
Computer Training Programs
In partnership with NorthStar Digital Literacy Assessment, PCDC is offering a variety of computer training programs that cover topics such as information literacy, the Microsoft Office Suite, internet basics, and the use of email. The curriculum also includes instruction on Windows 10, Google Docs, and social media, ensuring participants gain a comprehensive understanding of essential digital tools. The classes are aligned with the local school district’s schedule, making it easier for participants to balance their education with other commitments.
Career Search Skills Workshops
The career search skills workshops, running from September 4 through June 25, 2025, are designed to assist individuals in their job search efforts. These workshops offer both in-person and virtual sessions, with topics including career coaching, interview preparation, resume and cover letter writing, and job search planning. One-on-one consultations are available every Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Adult Education GED/Diploma Program
PCDC’s adult education program goes beyond the average GED/diploma experience by preparing students not only to obtain their high school equivalency but also to pursue higher education opportunities. In collaboration with the Clarendon County School District’s Adult Education program, PCDC offers a structured enrollment process that includes application, pre-testing, counseling, orientation, and the start of classes.
The program emphasizes the economic benefits of earning a GED or high school diploma, noting that South Carolina graduates earn an average of $7,542 more annually than those without credentials. The class of 2024 is expected to collectively earn an additional $26 million over their lifetimes. PCDC serves students ranging in age from 17 to 80, demonstrating that it is never too late to continue one’s education.
Call for Volunteers
As PCDC continues to expand its reach, the organization is seeking dedicated volunteers to support its mission. Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the community by assisting with program delivery and providing vital support to participants.
Interested individuals are encouraged to contact PCDC at (803) 225-8290 or via email at paxvillecdcgg@gmail.com. Additional information can be found on the organization’s website, www.paxvillecdc.org.
By offering these programs and inviting the community to get involved, PCDC aims to empower individuals through education and skill-building, ultimately fostering a stronger and more resilient Paxville.
