Friday, May 17, 2024, Manning High School recent graduates, (Centered: Parah Anderson, India Bozier, and Kelvin Pearson) were pleasantly surprised on two fronts during Manning High Senior Awards night. First, they saw five of their former classmates on stage (Left to right: Clayton Rose, Mary Louise Jones, LaJada White, Waveland McCabe and Ashley Felipe (not pictured). Secondly, the recent MHS graduates heard their names announced as Monarch Strong Corporation (MSC) 2024 Scholarship winners.

Here are the new MSC 2024 scholarship winners in their own words:

India Bozier, accepted at Francis Marion University as an incoming freshman majoring in Business Management, aspires to be an entrepreneur in the financial industry.

“When I saw the previous MSC winners from last year, I was shocked and surprised.

When they called my name as a MSC 2024 scholarship winner, I had butterflies in my stomach. I was happy and amazed. I didn’t think that I was going to get it. At first, I thought I was the only one, then I was amazed and glad to hear that there were two other MSC scholarship winners. I plan to use my first $500 MSC Scholarship check towards my college fees.

Kelvin Pearson, former Drum Major for the Golden Pride Marching Band, has been accepted as an incoming freshman at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Kelvin is a serious go-getter who plans to be his family’s first generation college graduate, first lawyer, and first Dr. Pearson.

“First I would like to thank the MSC scholarship committee for choosing me as a recipient for the Monarch Strong Scholarship. Organizations like yours really make me feel more secure about my future. When I saw my former classmates walk across the stage it reminded me how even though our High-school years are over we aren’t done yet. We will still go on to do great things.

When I heard my name called, I was really just proud of myself. All the time, effort, and will power it took for me to be able to go on stage and accept this scholarship was exhausting, but I did. Reaping the benefits of all my hard work was really satisfying. I also made my support system (family, friends, and counselors) proud, as all they put into me was not in vain.

My MSC scholarship check will directly go to purchasing my school supplies and dorm room necessities. I really appreciate being selected as a recipient of the MSC scholarship and becoming part of the Monarch Strong Family.”

Parah Anderson, incoming freshman at Howard University, will be majoring in Computer Information Systems to become an IT Administrator.

“Manning High Senior Awards night was more of a full circle moment for me. I was a MHS Junior Marshall for the class of 2023, and to see them come back was such an enlightening experience. I was able to reconnect with them once again about their new lives. When receiving the scholarship, I felt proud because it showed how hard work definitely pays off. My first MSC $500 check will contribute towards my college essentials and textbooks. Thank you all for this opportunity!”

MSC winners are chosen based on academic achievement, official proof of enrollment into a postsecondary institution, demonstrated leadership potential, and financial need. Winners receive $1000 each. For the first semester, a $500 scholarship check is payable to the recipient for college prep essentials (text books, electronics, dorm essentials, personal hygiene etc.). The remaining $500 scholarship check is used towards recipient’s second semester tuition and payable to the post-secondary school provided a 3.0 GPA is maintained.
