Monarch Strong Scholarship winners

At their annual awards ceremony on May 19, 2023, Manning High School recognized and honored their seniors for their hard work and accomplishments. During the ceremony, Monarch Strong Corporation (MSC) gave $1000 scholarships to seven seniors: Ashley Felipe, Camaya Young, Clayton Rose, LaJada White, Mary L. Jones, Tatiana Pendergrass, and Waveland McCabe IV. They were given $500 at the end of the ceremony and must submit a college transcript after their first semester of college to obtain the remaining $500.

Ashley Felipe will be attending the University of South Carolina-Columbia. She has been accepted into the Darla Moore School of Business. Ashley commented, “When my name was called out as the winner, I felt an overwhelming feeling of joy, relief, and immense sense of validation. Knowing that the Monarch Strong Staff connected with my story and appreciated my perseverance and determination as a first-generation student meant the world to me. Receiving the first MSC scholarship check was an incredibly meaningful experience for me and my family. It gave me relief to know that I would have further help to pursue my education and goals since it was tangible proof that my dedication and hard work had paid off. The scholarship has not only alleviated some of the financial burdens but also boosted our spirits, reaffirming our belief that perseverance and resilience can lead to brighter futures. I am extremely grateful and feel so privileged to be a part of the Monarch Strong family. Thank you for your unwavering support and for providing me with this incredible opportunity. It is a privilege to be a part of the Monarch Strong family.”

Camaya Young has been accepted to Montclair State University- New Jersey. She will be majoring in Journalism and Digital Media.

Clayton Rose has a Pre-Nursing Preparatory Certificate and will be attending Central Carolina Technical College-Sumter. Clayton explained, “When I heard my name called as one of the Monarch Strong Scholarship recipients, I was very surprised. Getting this scholarship was a big honor as I knew I was a step closer to achieving my college goals. I was proud to be a recipient because I knew my story was heard and knew my story would continue. When I received the check after the awards program, I was very happy. The excitement rose because I knew there were individuals out there who would want to see me succeed. Knowing that I understand what it means to be Monarch Strong will not only help me succeed later in life but also teach others what it means to be Monarch Strong.”

LaJada White will be a freshman at Winthrop University. “When my name was called as a Monarch Strong Scholarship Recipient, it allowed me to see that all of my hard work & perseverance finally paid off and I was overwhelmed with emotions!”

Mary L. Jones will be a Sociology major at Charleston Southern University. Tatiana Pendergrass has been accepted to Coastal Carolina University where she will major in Business Administration/Management.

Waveland McCabe IV “Mac”, Salutatorian for the Class of 2023 will be a freshman at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, majoring in Neuroscience.

Included at the show will be tethered hot air balloon rides, music, food vendors. Some MSC sponsors will also be on-site for info and hiring sprees.
