Monarch Strong builds on giving day, plans car show

Monarch Strong Corporation is building on its recent participation in Midlands Gives as it looks ahead to its next major fundraiser supporting scholarships for Manning High School seniors.

The nonprofit took part in Midlands Gives on May 5, a regional day of giving that connects donors with verified nonprofits across the Midlands through the Central Carolina Community Foundation. The event helps organizations expand community support and raise awareness for their mission.

Founded by Manning High School alumni, Monarch Strong Corporation (MSC) funds scholarships for seniors while also helping meet essential needs for underserved students in Clarendon County. That impact is reflected in the experiences of recipients now continuing their education.

“When the Monarch Strong Corporation was encouraging me throughout my first year in college, it felt like I had the whole community cheering me on,” said Timothy Goldsmith, a student at the University of Georgia.

Dana McCoy, a first-generation college student at the University of South Carolina, said the support extends beyond financial assistance. “I’m very thankful and appreciative of these amazing people within our community who go above and beyond for the youth,” McCoy said.

For Kelvin Pearson, the scholarship eased the transition into college life. “The MSC scholarship allowed me to focus on my studies and settle into college life without additional financial stress,” he said.

Recipients said the support helps cover tuition, textbooks and required supplies, allowing them to stay focused on their goals. “The MSC scholarship helped cover tuition and textbook expenses, making it possible for me to focus on my studies,” said Parah Anderson.

“Through the MSC Scholarship, I was able to start my journey in pursuing my degree and getting one step closer to my dream of becoming a neurologist,” said Waveland McCabe IV, while LaJada White said the funding helped her purchase a required laptop and textbooks for her courses.

Ashley Felipe, also a first-generation college student, said the scholarship provided peace of mind. “The scholarship gave me the freedom to concentrate on my education without the constant burden of financial concerns,” Felipe said.

Monarch Strong’s next fundraiser is set for June 27 with its annual “Show Us Your Wheels” auto show at J.C. Britton Park in Manning. The event will feature a variety of vehicles, a 50/50 raffle, awards, food and a community talent show, with proceeds supporting the scholarship program.
