At their annual awards ceremony on May 27th, 2022, Manning High School recognized and honored their seniors. Scholarships and awards were granted to many students in acknowledgment of their hard work and accomplishments. During the ceremony, the Monarch Strong Committee gave $1,000 scholarships to five seniors: Addie Laney, Dana McCoy, Xavier Evans, Timothy Goldsmith, and Darren Dawkins. They were given $500 at the end of the ceremony and must submit a college transcript after their first semester of college to obtain the remaining $500. Dana McCoy will be attending the University of South Carolina Upstate with a major in communications.
“I am extremely appreciative of this scholarship opportunity.” “I admire the Monarch’s Strong Committee for what they do for the students, and they’ve been very helpful to me over the last two years while working for the Manning Times, so it was such an honor to receive this from them,” said Dana McCoy.
Addie Laney is the Manning High School class of 2022 valedictorian and received numerous scholarships that night.
“I’m honored to have been a recipient of the monarch’s strong scholarship. In the fall, I will be attending the University of South Carolina to major in public health with a minor in theology to become a physical therapist and a youth pastor. I enjoy many things, such as dancing and playing tennis, which I hope to continue to do in Columbia, “said Laney.
Timothy Goldsmith is an honors student and graduated from Central Carolina Technical College while in high school with his associates degree.
“When I received the Monarch Strong, I felt honored because I am really grateful to see all my hard work getting recognized.” This scholarship will help me with my future plans by going to college at Averett University and majoring in Communications and minoring in Business. I will also be playing football for Averett University as well. My future career goal is to become a news anchor/news reporter,” said Goldsmith.
Xavier Evans is a student-athlete who intends to continue his athletic and academic careers at Converse University.
“I am grateful for this scholarship and the opportunity to get it, and I am looking forward to continuing my education at Converse University,” Evans said.
Darren Dawkins received numerous awards at the ceremony and has been an essential part of the high school’s Future Farmers of America program.
“I am very grateful to have received the Monarch Strong Scholarship. I will be attending Clemson University in the fall to study Animal and Veterinary Sciences. Afterwards, I plan to pursue a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and then work with animals for the rest of my career, “ said Dawkins.
