The Monarch Strong Corporation continues to celebrate the success of its 2024 scholarship recipients as they navigate their first year of college. The organization, which provides financial assistance and ongoing mentorship to Manning High School graduates, has maintained close ties with this year’s scholars, encouraging their academic and personal growth.
Two students, in particular, shared how the scholarship has shaped their journeys at the University of South Carolina-Columbia, highlighting achievements and offering advice for future Manning High graduates.
Kelvin Pearson: Breaking barriers and achieving excellence
Kelvin Pearson, a University of South Carolina freshman and proud recipient of the Monarch Strong scholarship, has already made his mark on campus. With the financial assistance provided by the scholarship, Kelvin was able to purchase essential items for his dorm, including toiletries, school supplies, and decorations that helped create a comfortable living environment.
“The MSC scholarship allowed me to focus on my studies and settle into college life without additional financial stress,” Kelvin said.
During his first semester, Kelvin achieved several milestones. He became the first University of South Carolina student to march with the Benedict College Marching Band of Distinction, and he was also named BUSC Mr. Freshman, a distinction that marks him as a standout leader among his peers.
Kelvin’s leadership skills have earned him a coveted position as a 2025-26 Orientation Leader, a role that will allow him to mentor and guide incoming students. “Over 1,500 students applied for the role, and I’m honored to be one of only 36 chosen,” he said.
Despite his busy schedule, Kelvin maintained a strong academic performance, finishing his first semester with a 3.71 GPA. “Good grades get you through the door, but your connections make you excel,” Kelvin advised Manning High seniors. “Push forward and believe in yourself, and I promise, you will succeed.”
Parah Anderson: Grateful for opportunities
Fellow Monarch Strong scholar and USC freshman Parah Anderson also expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, which helped cover tuition and textbook expenses.
“The MSC scholarship made it possible for me to focus on my studies and continue my journey toward earning a bachelor’s degree,” Parah shared.
Reflecting on her time at Manning High, Parah offered advice to current students. “If I knew then what I know now, I would have taken advantage of every opportunity and resource Manning High has to offer,” she said. “Cherish every moment because the transition from high school to college is very different.”
A legacy of support and success
Monarch Strong’s dedication to empowering Manning High graduates is evident in the success stories of its scholarship recipients. As these students chart new paths, they credit the organization, their families, and the Manning community for providing the support and encouragement needed to thrive.
For Kelvin and Parah, the scholarship has been more than financial assistance—it has been a catalyst for personal and academic growth, inspiring them to aim higher and achieve more. Their stories reflect the transformative power of community investment in young leaders.
