MJHS receives an excellent report card

Posted

The hard work of students and staff at Manning Junior High School has paid off, as they received an excellent rating on the state report card released in October. School and District Report Cards are posted on the South Carolina Department of Education’s (SCDE’s) website and provide information about each school and district, including test performance, teacher qualifications, student safety, awards, parent involvement, and much more.

Over the past several years, Manning Junior High has been a Priority School and had to work diligently to move up in the ratings. District-mandated benchmarks and common assessments have also assisted the school in achieving excellence by ensuring that teachers teach standardized lessons and achieve standard mastery.

“In the 2017-2018 school year, MJHS was rated unsatisfactory, which was not where we wanted to be. And in 1 year, we went to the Average mark, and we were excited about that,” stated Manning Junior High School Principal, Mrs. Terrie Ard. “We knew we could not stay complacent, so we increased our standards-based rigor with common assessments and benchmarks. Even our non-testing subjects like Social Studies and Related Arts helped by allowing time for students to practice using some of our district software programs.”

Manning Junior High School staff and students plan to continue their hard work to remain excellent.

“It has taken everyone in the building to help our school become Excellent, and it will take each of us to continue educating and empowering our students to remain Excellent,” says Terrie Ard.
