Mims, Keefe ahead in Turbeville council race; certification Thursday

Posted

Incumbent Herbert Mims and newcomer Becky Wilkes Keefe hold the lead in the Town of Turbeville Council election, according to unofficial results released Tuesday night by the Clarendon County Board of Voter Registration and Elections.

Voters were asked to select two candidates for the nonpartisan race. Mims received 51 votes (37.23%), followed by Keefe with 45 votes (32.85%). Incumbent Albert Mobley finished third with 40 votes (29.20%). One write-in vote was reported.

A total of 137 votes were cast, including Election Day, early voting and absentee ballots. Of the 494 registered voters in the precinct, turnout was 18.22%.

Election officials also reported 41 undervotes, meaning those voters chose only one candidate instead of selecting two for the available council seats.

The results remain unofficial until they are certified by the county’s Board of Voter Registration and Elections, which will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at the county elections office, 3 South Church Street in Manning. The meeting is open to the public.

Officials confirmed there are five provisional ballots that the board must vote to accept or reject as part of the canvass process. Any change to the unofficial totals will be reflected in Thursday’s certification.

If the results stand, Mims will return for another term, while Keefe would take the seat currently held by Mobley on the five-member council, which includes the mayor.
