Residents gathered at two heartfelt Memorial Day events to honor the lives of military service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
In Turbeville, the Turbeville Ruritan Club hosted a Memorial Day service on May 26 in Town Square. The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the distinction between military observances—Armed Forces Day honors active personnel, Veterans Day recognizes those who have served, and Memorial Day pays tribute to those who gave their lives in service. The event featured a patriotic display and quiet reflection as the community united in remembrance.
In Manning, the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band’s 11-member brass ensemble, Heritage Brass, performed a stirring tribute at Weldon Auditorium on the evening of May 26. The free 90-minute concert included military standards and patriotic selections, showcasing the elite talents of the USAF musicians. The Shaw Air Force Base Color Guard presented the colors to open the performance, adding to the evening’s reverent tone.
