McLeod presents sports medicine awards

McLeod Sports Medicine recently presented the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarships to three local athletes. The scholarship recipients were recognized at the second annual McLeod Sports Medicine Softball Tournament held Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Freedom Florence Athletic Complex in Florence. The athletes receiving the scholarships were McKenzie Lawrimore, Abby Grace Parnell and John Michael Hardy.

Lawrimore is a senior at Johnsonville High School where she played softball and tennis. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina to major in Business Administration and minor in Real Estate. In the future, she plans to become a property manager.

Parnell is a senior at The King’s Academy where she participated in competitive cheerleading and softball. After graduation, she plans to attend Clemson University and major in Biochemistry. Parnell intends to become a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

Hardy is a senior at East Clarendon High School where he played football and baseball. After graduation, he plans to attend Francis Marion University and major in Engineering.

Sponsored by McLeod Sports Medicine, the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarship recognizes student athletes who exhibit excellence in academics, athletics and possess strong leadership skills. The scholarship is awarded annually to college-bound high school seniors. The athletes are selected from participating area public and private high schools.
