FLORENCE, S.C. — McLeod Health will implement temporary visitation restrictions at all of its hospitals beginning Tuesday, Dec. 30, in response to an increase in flu cases across the region.
According to a statement released by McLeod Health, the measures are intended to protect patients, staff and visitors as flu activity rises during the winter months.
Under the updated guidelines, patients may have no more than two visitors at a time. Visitors must be immediate family members or primary caregivers, and all visitors must be at least 12 years old.
Hospital officials said the changes are temporary and reflect increased precautions commonly taken during periods of elevated illness. The health system did not specify how long the restrictions will remain in place.
“With the recent increases in flu cases throughout our regions, McLeod Health will be taking more precautions to keep our patients, staff and visitors healthy,” the organization said in its announcement.
McLeod Health emphasized that the health and well-being of patients, staff and the broader community remain its top priority. Visitors are encouraged to monitor their health and avoid hospital visits if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Seasonal influenza activity typically peaks during the winter months, and health officials across South Carolina have urged residents to take preventive steps, including vaccination, frequent handwashing and staying home when sick.
McLeod Health operates hospitals and medical facilities across the Pee Dee and northeastern South Carolina regions, serving patients in multiple counties, including Clarendon.
Additional updates regarding visitation policies will be shared as conditions change, according to the health system.
