As previously stated, the City of Manning does not pave roads. The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is responsible for paving state-maintained roads.
Prior to beginning our sewer project, the City coordinated with SCDOT with the understanding that roads in each completed area would be paved. However, a couple of months ago, SCDOT notified us that this would no longer be the case. We have since been placed on the paving schedule for 2027.
SCDOT determines when paving projects occur based on its statewide scheduling process, and we understand there are many factors involved in those decisions.
My fellow council members and I are extremely disappointed with the current condition of our streets, and we fully understand the inconvenience they have caused. We drive these same roads every day, just as our constituents do.
Please know that we will continue to remain diligent and stay in regular contact with SCDOT as we advocate for this project and work toward getting our streets paved as soon as possible.
