The man who died after jumping off a boat in Lake Marion Friday night has been identified as Casey Lynch, 38, of Elloree, according to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle.
Lynch reportedly jumped from a pontoon boat near the I-95 bridge on the Orangeburg County side of Lake Marion on the evening of June 27 and did not resurface, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
Divers searched the area and recovered Lynch’s body the following afternoon. The coroner’s office confirmed an autopsy is scheduled later this week.
SCDNR stated in a June 28 update that officers and investigators responded to the scene and that the agency’s dive team handled the recovery. “We extend our condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones,” the agency posted on social media. “We thank our officers, dive team, and all assisting agencies for their dedication and support throughout the recovery.”
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
