On Sept. 23, 2023, EMS responded to a call for service for a person that was reported as having fallen in the roadway and suffered injuries on Hill Street in Summerton. The victim was identified as Tonny Smythe.
Law enforcement was not immediately notified of the incident until approximately three hours later where it was determined that he was struck by a U-Haul truck which resulted in the victim sustaining major injuries.
