Lutheran Services looking for foster family volunteers

Lutheran Services Carolinas is actively recruiting individuals and families for therapeutic foster care in the Upstate of South Carolina. Every month LSC has to turn away 70 to 80 children because there are not enough homes for placement.

LSC is an accepting organization that does not discriminate based on race, religion, or sexual orientation. The only preliminary requirements to become a foster parent in South Carolina are that you are 25 years old, able to pass a background check, and are able to provide a healthy, nurturing, and loving home for the child. The process takes anywhere from 3-6 months to complete.

Some other requirements to become a therapeutic foster parent are to provide a verifiable source of income, provide medical clearance, and have First Aid and CPR training.

“Sometimes because of abuse or neglect or because their parents have become unable to care for them, children are left without the love and support they need to lead happy and productive lives,” said Rachael Fulmer, Business Developer for LSC. “Foster and treatment parents guide and support children through unimaginable struggles and challenges, and we guide and support parents to make the experience rewarding.”

To view all of the requirements and begin the process of becoming a foster parent please visit or call (864) 399-7552 for more information.

With supervision and support from LSC, loving families provide care to approximately 500 children across the Carolinas each year. Therapeutic foster care serves children with challenges somewhat greater than normal, including medically fragile children and children who have emotional and behavioral issues that require counseling. Therapeutic foster care is offered in North and South Carolina.
