Local Spotlight: Caldwell Law Firm

Posted

Darryl C. Caldwell attended Manning High School, where he graduated in 1986.  Even then, he knew he would one day have a career in Law.

“I was inspired by the work of former Senator John Land,” Caldwell recalled, “I loved to watch him both in the senate and as he practiced law.”

Caldwell then went on to attend Clemson University, where he majored in Civil Engineering.  Upon graduating from Clemson in 1991, he moved to North Carolina where he worked in the engineering field for a time.

“I was sure I wanted a career in law,” Caldwell said, “But at the time, my family also wanted to be sure I could find steady employment.  They encouraged me to study engineering and work in the field for a time, so I did.”

Caldwell returned to his ambitions for a career practicing law soon enough though, graduating from North Carolina Central School of Law in 1999.  When asked about some of the cases that made the biggest impact on him during his time in law school, Caldwell recalled:

“Some of the cases that effect on me were those dealing with desegregation in the South.  I’d learned about the historical significance growing up, and I’d especially learned about the role Clarendon County played in it thanks to my neighbor, the lateLevi Pearson, Jr.  It was a very different perspective though, studying how it happened in terms of the law.”

When asked what he would like residents of Clarendon County to know about him, Caldwell said:

“I grew up locally right here in Manning, and thanks to amazing teachers, mentors, my church community and others, I was able to go on to law school and have the career I’d always dreamed about.  What I want others to know  is that, no matter where you come from, if you dream something and allow those around you to help you, you can do anything you put your mind to.”

The Manning Times would like to thank Mr. Caldwell for taking part in our local spotlight.
