Lions Vision Services

Every year, the Manning Lions Club visits all area Head Start schools to perform eye screening for their students.  The Lions use a special “spot” camera which can capture objective vision screening results for children as young as six months old in just a matter of seconds.  Historically, about 30% of the children evaluated are referred for further examination.

The spot camera used for these eye screenings can be used for older children and adults, as well. The Manning Lions are available to do free screenings for any area school, and as stated earlier, the test only takes seconds per student.  Administrators, if you would like to have this program at your school, contact the Manning Lions Club at manningsclions@gmail.com.

For those without insurance or who otherwise feel that they cannot afford an eye exam and glasses, the Lions may be able to help.  Applications for assistance are available at two locations in Manning:  The Department of Social Services, 236 Commerce St., Manning, and My Eye Doctor, 1774 Paxville Hwy, Manning.  This program is open to anyone needing financial assistance for vision care.

After completing the application, it should be mailed to the Manning Lions Club (the address is on the application).  Once the application is approved, a Lion will contact the applicant so they can make an appointment with My Eye Doctor. If glasses are needed, the applicant will pay the doctor a $10 copay – that’s all. The Lions will take care of the rest.
