Letter to the Editor: ASCAS thrift store event was a success!

Posted

On Saturday, May 20th , A Second Chance Animal Shelter held a large Parking Lot Sale at the Second Chance Thrift Store on S. Mill. In addition to the outside venue, it marked the beginning of Saturday hours at the store. We’re pleased to report robust sales both in our parking lot and, more important, in the store. We worried whether our efforts to spread the word about our opening and sale would be successful.

As any local business knows, the ways to communicate something like this to the public are limited. We took full advantage of the basics, with ads in the Manning Times and on ManningLive, flyers wherever they could be posted, and street-corner signs.

But with the 1 st crowds arriving well before our official 8AM opening, and remaining steady throughout the day, it seems the word did indeed get around. So a big shout-out to all the local residents who paid us a visit and went home with some bargains. We also want to thank the local Lions Club who were instrumental in helping us move donated furniture from several storage spots to the store - their collective muscle and strong backs were sure appreciated - and the Manning Police who kept a watchful eye on the merchandise we stashed overnight Friday on the walkway in front of our building. We hope word of our Saturday openings continues to spread, and the Thrift Store becomes another in the growing list of downtown shops and businesses that are gradually turning our city into a bustling, interesting place to be on the weekend. We have a lot to offer! We encourage the City and the Chamber of Commerce to do whatever they can to support the local merchants in their efforts.

From A Second Chance Animal Shelter and A Second Chance Thrift Store: Thank You, Manning foryour support!
