Journey to Recovery, community event honoring recovery and remembering lives lost

Posted

Join Clarendon County in celebrating National Recovery Month at the third-annual Journey to Recovery event on Thursday, September 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St. This event is organized by Clarendon Behavioral Health Services, the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, and the John Landon Black Foundation.

The John Landon Black Foundation, established in memory of John Landon Black, who tragically lost his life to an accidental drug overdose in 2022, aims to provide support for individuals facing substance abuse challenges. The foundation recently opened “John’s Place,” a safe haven for those seeking rehabilitation, reflecting John’s welcoming and non-judgmental spirit.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating the Wins” and “Honoring the Lost,” will honor those affected by substance abuse and highlight the importance of community support. The event will feature speakers, including substance abuse professionals and family members, discussing ways to combat addiction and support loved ones struggling with substance use, including the rising concerns around vaping.

Attendees can enjoy door prizes (must be present to win) and free hotdog plates as they leave. Come and be part of an evening dedicated to healing and hope in our community.
