The Harvin Clarendon County Library is reaching out to residents with a community survey aimed at shaping the library’s future and ensuring its services meet the evolving needs of Clarendon County. The initiative, which runs from Jan. 14 to Feb. 14, 2025, invites both library users and non-users to share their input.
“This library was built 40 years ago with the help of the community, and we’re trying to keep that same spirit alive by asking for their input to guide our next chapter,” said Holly Cockfield, Library Director. “We want to hear from everyone, not just those who currently use the library.”
The survey, accessible online via the library’s Facebook page or through paper copies available at the library, covers a range of topics. Participants can provide feedback on current services, suggest new programs, and address facility needs. To encourage participation, respondents will have a chance to win a $150 Walmart gift card.
The library is also hosting outreach events, including a survey session at the Abundant Life Community Resource Center in Gable on Jan. 29 from 6 to 7 p.m. Additionally, focus groups are being planned, and residents interested in joining can contact the library directly.
Upcoming events include a foster parenting information session hosted by SC Mentor on Jan. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. and a blood drive by The Blood Connection on Feb. 14. The library’s regular children’s programming, led by Youth Services Librarian LaKesha Meredith, continues to engage young readers through story times and other activities.
In tandem with the survey, the library’s board is focusing on strategic planning and updating internal policies. Cockfield noted the library’s future involvement in running a new facility in Turbeville, which is currently under development by the city.
The library encourages all residents to participate in shaping the future of this vital community resource. As Cockfield emphasized, “Libraries can do so much more than you think. If you can imagine it, we’ll do our best to make it happen.”
