Go Gold for September

Posted

It’s the time of year again to paint the county of Claren- don gold to raise awareness in order to cure childhood cancer. To kick off the fund- raising efforts on Thursday, September 15th, Shannon Greens Country Club will host a Bingo Night. This event will include dinner, 5 bingo cards and prizes. Gold bows will also be available to purchase at the event.

This event is hosted by family and friends of Mary Catherine Buyck. All proceeds and donations will go to Curing Kids Cancer, which is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2005 by Grainne and Clay Owenout of Marietta Georgia in order to celebrate the life of their son Killian who passed away from cancer at age 9.

Clarendon County’s own Mary Catherine Buyck has been involved with this organization for the past several years. “She raises the money because these medicinal drugs used in the fight against cancer are not usually made for children, ‘’ explained her mother Caroline Buyck. “They are made for adults only and this particular charity helps to fund treatments that are designed for children.”

Everyone is encouraged to donate any amount and pick up a gold bow from The Manning Times office at 230 East Boyce Street in Manning or call 803-435- 8422 with any questions.

The Manning Times will also be featuring a weekly feature through the month of Septem- ber on childhood cancer awareness. If you wish to be featured please email us at manningsctimes@gmail. com.
