In a major win for the heart of South Carolina, Homanit, a leading European manufacturer of wood-based materials, has announced plans to establish its first U.S. manufacturing operation in Clarendon County. The $250 million investment, representing Clarendon County’s largest announcement in two decades, is expected to create 300 new jobs.
Homanit, based in Germany, produces medium- and high-density fiberboards used in furniture, automotive components, doors and industrial coatings. With production facilities already located in Germany, Lithuania and Poland, the company’s expansion into South Carolina marks a strategic move to better serve its U.S. customer base.
This announcement is the result of close coordination between state, regional and local economic development teams. George Kosinski, Executive Director of the Clarendon County Development Board, and multiple entities including the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, the South Carolina Forestry Commission and the Forestry Association of South Carolina worked over a years-long process to engage with Homanit’s leadership and demonstrate the readiness of the site.
“We are extremely grateful that Homanit has chosen Clarendon County for its U.S. operations. The selection of the Alcolu site is the result of a true collaboration – one that was years in the making,” said Kosinski. “Many dedicated partners and allies worked tirelessly to ensure the site was prepared for a project of this scale. We remained committed to the vision and never wavered. Once again, thank you to Homanit, and we wish you many years of continued success.”
Securing an industry partner like Homanit is not only a boost for Clarendon County but for the business landscape of the entire region.
“This is exactly the kind of transformational investment we work to attract – bringing quality jobs, long-term impact and international recognition to our region,” said Jason Giulietti, President & CEO of the Central SC Alliance. “We welcome Homanit to the Central SC Region and look forward to the growth ahead.”
The Alcolu manufacturing facility will be located at 1200 Spigner Road, with operations anticipated to begin in 2028. For more information about Homanit, including job opportunities, visit homanit.org/en/career/jobs/.
