On Jan. 17, the Manning City Council met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

It was at this meeting that a very special award was given. Mayor Nelson presented former House of Representatives for District 64 Kimberly Johnson with a key to the city for her dedicated and exemplary advocacy for the City of Manning and its citizens.

Most recently, Johnson helped to finalize a $700,000 grant for Town Centre Venue and Park, also known as the Church Street Park.

Johnson has assisted with securing many funds for the county over the last few years. The Key to the City is a highly esteemed award.

Next on the agenda was the resolution to declare city vehicles and other equipment as surplus property and grant authorization to sell said city vehicle and equipment. The resolution passed and Council declared several vehicles, including a 1986 Ford fire engine, as obsolete and it was sold at govdeals.

The meeting was soon adjourned. The City Council will meet again in February.
