Organizers are calling on former American Legion baseball players and coaches to show their support for one of Clarendon County’s most influential figures in youth sports during Bill Brewer Night, set for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Manning Junior High School Cafeteria, 1101 W.L. Hamilton Road.
The event will honor William “Bill” Jackson Brewer for his 35 years of service as Post 68 coach and athletic officer, as well as his contributions as South Carolina American Legion Baseball Commissioner. A Manning High School graduate and alumnus of Presbyterian Junior College, Brewer was inducted into the SCALB Hall of Fame in 2023.
Organizers say the night will be especially meaningful with a strong showing of former players and coaches whose lives were shaped by Brewer’s leadership.
Guest speaker for the evening will be Bobby Richardson, legendary New York Yankees second baseman and World Series Most Valuable Player.
Tickets are $25 per person and may be purchased from G.G. Cutter, Donald Hardy, Jerry Coker, or Maxie Knowlton, as well as at Guignard Diner in Sumter, Weldon Auditorium, the Bank of Clarendon, and the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce. Checks or cash only; make payments to Manning Santee Baseball.
