F .E. DuBose Career Center took to social media to celebrate Grice’s achievement. “Our Law Enforcement Instructor is a 2024 Mary Dean Brewer Woman of Distinction,” the post read. “When a girl sees a good example, it is then that they know what they can achieve. Congratulations to our very own Mrs. Ladell Grice for receiving one of the Mary Dean Brewer Women of Distinction Awards presented by the Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina. We thank you for the great example you set at F.E. DuBose Career Center, Clarendon County School District, and the community as a whole.”
Grice has played a pivotal role in the success of the Law Enforcement Program at the F.E. DuBose Career Center, which has been recognized as one of the top Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in South Carolina. Her dedication to providing students with exceptional educational opportunities and real-world experiences has been widely acknowledged. “Partnerships with local law enforcement agencies and hands-on learning experiences are crucial for our students,” Grice stated. “These collaborations help prepare them for successful careers in law enforcement and related fields.”
Dr. Shawn Johnson, Superintendent of the Clarendon County School District, praised the Law Enforcement Program and its impact on students. “As a district, it is vital that our students are college and career-ready,” Johnson said. “Labor market analyses show that we are offering pathways with the most need in our state, and we look at those carefully when choosing our Career and Technical Education courses.”
The Mary Dean Brewer Woman of Distinction Award has honored numerous women over the past 25 years, including several leaders from McLeod Health. The award is named in memory of Mary Dean Brewer, a former Vice President of McLeod Regional Medical Center and a dedicated Girl Scout. Brewer initiated the event in 1998 to honor women who successfully applied the principles and values of Girl Scouting in their professional lives. Since her passing, the event has continued to grow and honor women across various sectors.
Grice’s recognition not only underscores her contributions to law enforcement education but also highlights the positive impact she has on her students and the community. Her leadership and dedication serve as an inspiration for young girls and future leaders.
