Two standout student-athletes from East Clarendon Middle/High School will continue their athletic journeys at the collegiate level.

Jasmyne Lloyd has signed to play basketball at Newberry College, while Syrus Brown will wrestle for Allen University. The school celebrated the duo’s accomplishments during a signing ceremony held May 29.

Lloyd was a key contributor to the Lady Wolverines basketball team throughout her high school career. She averaged 8.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game during her junior season, helping lead East Clarendon to a 19-win campaign. Despite the team’s jump to a more competitive 2A region in her senior year, she remained a consistent presence on the court, averaging 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Brown made his mark on the mat as a 175-pound wrestler, earning a trip to the SCHSL state tournament where he notched a win in his weight class. A former Lake City student, Brown transferred to East Clarendon and found success under the Wolverines’ wrestling program.

Both athletes will attend historically significant South Carolina institutions. Newberry College, located in Newberry, is known for its strong Division II athletics programs, while Allen University, based in Columbia, is a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) with a growing athletic profile.

East Clarendon staff and students have expressed pride in the accomplishments of Lloyd and Brown, recognizing their hard work, discipline, and dedication to both athletics and academics.
