Eagles beat Hemingway in landslide game

Posted

The Scott’s Branch Middle/High Eagles Varsity football team traveled to Hemingway High School to display their prowess on the gridiron. After a disappointing loss to Johnsonville, which concluded with player suspensions, the Eagles rose to the challenge to compete in their first conference game.

Coach State said, “On Friday we went down to Hemmingway Homecoming. The guys seem focused all week. First quarter we came out and got a quick score off the defense by 12th grader Shameek Hill. He ran it back 55 yards for a touchdown. Defense held again and was strong all night. The offense came up with another touchdown.

12th grader Tyler Kind performed one of his 3 touchdown passes, and he hit his brother Jordan Kind for a 20 yard touchdown which made it 12 to nothing at the half.

The Eagles came out in the 2nd half and Tyler Kind caught the kick off at the 15-yard line and returned it 85 yards for a touchdown. This made the score 18-0. We got a few more turnovers from the defense. Another touchdown by Shameek Hill followed by another one from Ernie Calloway with a 20 yard touchdown catch.

The defense was there all night making tackles and making hits.  Good showing from 10th grader Dreshauan Blanding, as he comes to play hard every week. Tyler and 12th grader Randy J. Gibson out there at the corner back position played well.

We decided to beat it, decided to get a win. We are in a fight for 3rd place position.”

Final score: Eagles 42 and Tigers 0.  Next Friday, the Eagles take on county rivals from East Clarendon, the Wolverines.
