Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary School has been recognized as a Palmetto Silver School for the 2023-24 academic year, an honor that highlights its academic growth and progress.

The Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards Program, established under South Carolina’s Education Accountability Act, recognizes schools statewide for high academic performance, significant improvement and efforts to close achievement gaps. To receive a Palmetto Silver designation, an elementary or middle school must demonstrate strong performance in both academic achievement and student progress and cannot be designated as a Comprehensive Support and Improvement or Additional Targeted Support and Improvement school.

Principal Joaquin Brown credited the recognition to the school’s teachers, staff and community.

“This is a testament to the hard work of our entire staff in maintaining an environment conducive to a safe learning environment where all of our students and staff can enjoy the learning process,” Brown said. “Having the support of our families and the greater Summerton community is also instrumental in our success, and we are grateful for their continued partnership as we work together to ensure every student reaches their full potential.”

Clarendon County School District Superintendent Shawn Johnson praised the achievement, saying it reflects the commitment of both educators and students.

“This award exemplifies the dedication, perseverance, and collaboration of our educators and students,” Johnson said. “Recognitions like this underscore our ongoing efforts to provide a high-quality education and equitable opportunities for all students while alleviating any barriers that may stand in the way. The district is proud of Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary’s progress and remains committed to supporting continuous growth and excellence across all schools.”

District officials said the recognition affirms their focus on creating a learning environment that fosters academic success, personal growth and lifelong learning.
