Dozens of cyclists come together to celebrate veteran’s birthday

Posted

Citizens of Summerton were greeted with the sounds of a few dozen motorcycles driving past the Presbyterian Church at 16 S Cantey Street on Feb 20. This noise was followed by sounds of celebration for one Algie Walker, a World War II veteran, who happened to be turning 94 years old.

The veteran was surrounded by friends and family, and, shortly after, nearly 50 bikers in full uniform singing a roaring happy birthday to Walker.

Before the cyclists came a parade of cars, many of which were sporting American and Military flags and emblems, who dropped off gifts and wished the veteran well.

Walker, who owns Walker Piano in Summerton, is a pillar of the community, and was more than happy with this socially-distanced celebration.
