Three Clarendon County high school students were recently honored at a Work-Based Learning Signing Day, marking the start of hands-on welding training through Central Carolina Technical College.

Javier Lawson of Scott’s Branch Middle/High School, along with Elijah Underwood and Darius McCray of East Clarendon Middle/High School, officially signed on to participate in the welding work-based learning program. The event was held at the F.E. DuBose Career Center, where all three are Career and Technical Education (CTE) Completers.

The students will now work four days a week with instructors at Central Carolina Technical College to fulfill their work-based learning hours, gaining valuable experience in a high-demand trade.

“We’re grateful for this valuable partnership that provides hands-on, engaging learning experiences and sets our students on the path to success,” the career center shared in a social media post.

The signing day celebration reflects the district’s continued commitment to providing students with real-world career opportunities and highlights the growing demand for skilled trades across the region.

The program is part of Clarendon County School District’s broader focus on Career and Technical Education, aimed at preparing students for the workforce or further education upon graduation.
