County recreation department offers open play basketball and golf lessons

Posted

The Clarendon County Recreation Department is expanding its sports programs, offering local youth and adults a chance to stay active and hone their skills through open-play basketball and golf lessons.

Basketball enthusiasts can participate in open-play sessions at Weldon Gym on Tuesdays and Sundays, with designated time slots based on age groups. Children ages 8-10 take the court first, followed by sessions for 11-13-year-olds, 14-18-year-olds, and an adult session for players over 18. A nominal fee of $1 per participant ensures accessibility for all. Youth players must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For those interested in golf, lessons with instructor Donald Hardy begin Tuesday, March 18. The program, designed for ages 7 and up, offers monthly instruction at a cost of $30. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills under Hardy’s guidance, learning the fundamentals of the game while enjoying Clarendon County’s scenic courses.

For additional information on golf lessons, residents can call 803-473-3543.
