Key Fumble dooms Clarendon Hall

Up 16 – 14 late in the fourth quarter, Coach Logan had a decision to make. Run the ball and get the first, and ice the game, or take a knee, let time tick off the clock, and bring a defense back on the field who has been on the field the majority of the second half. Coach decided with the aggressive option and went for the first. The following play, they reached the first down marker, but an untimely and unfortunate fumble gave Patrick Henry the ball in good field position. This also gave Patrick Henry a chance to win the game. The very next play Patrick Henry broke the hearts of Clarendon Hall with a touchdown pass. With 30 seconds left, Clarendon Hall made one last ditch effort, but the drive stalled at midfield.

Coach Logan said, “I can’t lie to you this one stings, but it’s like I told the guys in the locker room after the game: It’s just one game and win or lose, we move on. Moving forward, we will learn from this and be prepared.”

The game started out rough for Clarendon Hall who fumbled on their first play of the game to get down to an early 6-0 deficit, but then Darius Aiken breaks off an 80-yard touchdown run, and Brock Mathis follows up for another touchdown run to grab the momentum and go into halftime up 16-6. The opening possession of the second half, Patrick Henry marches down the field and gets a score, and a two-point conversion to cut in the lead at 16-14. That second half saw Patrick Henry take the game over with their running attack and tiring out Clarendon Halls defense. Then on a critical fourth down, Clarendon Hall’s defense made a huge stop to steal the game, but Patrick Henry forced Clarendon Hall into a big decision, leading to Coach Logan’s decision to go for the first. Clarendon Hall will look to get back into the win column Friday as they travel to face Conway Christian.

The Bobcats would finally get on the board with a touchdown run in the second, but the Monarchs would quickly answer with a touchdown run of their own. After a Bobcat fumble, Manning would add another rushing touchdown followed by a defensive safety to take a commanding 44-6 lead into the half. The Monarch’s defense forced three turnovers and added two defensive safeties to help in the victory. The Monarchs will look to continue the success they had against Baptist Hill as they host the Aynor Blue Jackets Friday night.
