SHOPLIFTING
On Aug. 30, 2024, an officer with the Manning Police Department responded to the Manning Walmart in response to a shoplifting complaint. While enroute, officers were advised that the subject, Jimmy Thames, left the store without paying for his items. Officers were also advised that Thames was on trespass notice and was not supposed to be on the property. Upon arrival, the officer observed Thames walking in the parking lot toward Murphy’s convenience store. Thames was stopped and detained until officers could speak with the complainant. The complainant advised that Thames selected several items while in the store and walked out without paying. The complainant adivsed that they attempted to stop Thames but he continued walking. The complainant further advised that Thames continued into the parking lot where he possibly dropped the items he took from the store. Officers checked the area where Thames was last seen before heading toward Murphy’s. Officers found a shopping cart with several food items in it. Items in the cart were four sub sandwiches which were cold to the touch, a package of nutty buddy snack cakes, a can of oysters, a can of sardines, and a can of chicken, The complainant advised that the items totaled $32 in value. Thames was placed under arrest for shoplifting and trespassing. A search of Thames’s person revealed a black steak knife and a black pipe, which were both placed into evidence for destruction. Thames was transported to the Clarendon County Detention Center without incident.
ASSAULT - AGGRAVATED
On Aug. 31, an officer was dispatched to Piggly Wiggly within the city limits of Manning in reference to an assault between two males involving a brick. Upon arrival, several officers from the Manning Police Department met with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office who made contact with the individuals in the rear area of the parking lot. One officer attempted to pass on information he gathered and what he witnessed to another officer, but he was unsuccessful due to the individuals continuing to have a verbal altercation with each other and two of them were attempting to leave at the same time. Two officers then detained the male subject that was being the most uncooperative and he was also the one that everyone was stating was the primary aggressor of the situation. After speaking with everyone on the scene, officers concluded that the male subject who was then identified as being a Andrew Blanding open handed slapped another individual and then threw a concrete brick/rock. The victim advised officers that he did not wish to prosecute MBlanding. However, another individual did wish to prosecute Blanding for the assault. Medical assistance was declined. An officer spoke with a witness who advised he saw the incident take place and attempted to break up the altercation and in the process his elbow got cut, but he also declined medical assistance. Dispatched advised the officers that the witness had an active warrant for his arrest from the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office. It was confirmed by another officer and the witness was then transported to the Clarendon County Detention Center. An officer then placed Blanding under arrest and transported him to the Clarendon County Detention Center. Another witness advised that she saw Blanding throwing a brick at one of the victims and then the altercation broke out between Blanding and the two victims.
