Clarendon County School District announces free summer feeding program

Manning, SC – The Clarendon County School District, with the enthusiastic support of the CCSD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Johnson, is excited to announce the launch of the Summer Feeding Program for all community members aged 18 and under. Despite the cessation of state funding for programs like P-EBT, Clarendon County has innovatively ensured that no child goes hungry this summer.

This year’s initiative, sponsored by the district's Office of Nutrition and backed by the CCSD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Johnson, is in support of a new federal initiative from the U.S. Department of Agriculture aimed at helping up to 20 million American children. It is a vital step towards addressing the significant issue of food insecurity, which affects one in six children in South Carolina according to Feeding America (www.feedingamerica.org).

"As the Director of Nutrition for the Clarendon County School District, I am thrilled to announce our commitment to continue nourishing our students through the Summer Feeding Program. With the unwavering support from the district and the Board of Trustees, we have strategically allocated funds to ensure that every child up to age 18 in our community has access to free, healthy meals even when school is out,” stated Gwen Phillips. “This program is not just about feeding the body; it’s about fueling the future of our community by keeping our students physically and mentally prepared to return to school ready to learn."
