The Clarendon County Board of Voter Registration and Elections has hired Robert Adams as its new director, according to a press release issued Feb. 1.
The board approved Adams following a vote at its Jan. 26 meeting. The motion passed by majority vote, with four members voting in favor, one opposed and one abstention.
“The Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Clarendon County would like to welcome Robert Adams as our new Director,” the board said in the release.
Adams will begin his duties Feb. 16. The director position had been vacant prior to the vote.
A native South Carolinian, Adams earned an Associate of Science degree from Williamsburg Technical College and holds additional certifications from Trident Technical College and Midlands Technical College. He is also a 2023 graduate of the Certified Election and Registration Administrator (CERA) program.
Adams brings nearly two decades of experience in elections administration, having worked in the Berkeley County Elections Office since the 2008 election cycle.
According to the release, Adams brings “a desire to help Clarendon County voters experience a more transparent and efficient open-door policy to voting.”
“Robert brings nearly eighteen years of experience and a willingness to educate voters about the services and information the election office can provide,” the board said.
The release also encouraged public engagement with the elections office.
“Both Robert and the board invite the voters of Clarendon County to ask questions and to come see for themselves the work and dedication that goes into the election process,” the release stated.
The Clarendon County Board of Voter Registration and Elections is located at 3 S. Church St. in Manning. Their next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 23.
